02.06.2010 | ”Integration @ WHU” – Launch of a two-year project to integrate foreign students
“Integration @ WHU“ has officially been started with a launch meeting. This project is funded and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – DAAD) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung – BMBF) within the scope of PROFIN, the “Advancement Programme for the Integration of Foreign Students” (“Programm zur Förderung der Integration ausländischer Studierender”) which provides the School with a budget of a maximum of 94.500 Euros within the 24 months to come.
“Integration @ WHU“ comprises a number of measures which aim at integrating foreign students. These measures are to accompany and to advance the evolution of the School, starting from a current situation where it doubtlessly already has a strong international orientation heading to become an international School as such. Stakeholders of the School and representatives of the society in Vallendar alike will be involved in this process. This approach aims to contribute towards a comprehensive integration of foreign students and to progressively make them active stakeholders of the School. The project as a whole intends to more successfully attach foreign students and graduates to Germany as a location for education and business. It is confident to accomplish its purpose by, on the one hand, integrating students with a migration background in an even more holistic way and, as a consequence, making the School more appealing to this target group on the other hand.
In addition to those WHU departments which have been involved in both the conception and the imminent enforcement of the enterprise as well as to its alumni association In Praxi, representatives of Vallendar’s main institutions participated in the launch meeting: the City of Vallendar, the world center of the International Schoenstatt Movement and the “Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Vallendar” (a catholic higher education institute with a faculty of theology and one of nursing science). The external participants had in fact supported the project proposal and are now willing to play an active part in the implementation of one of the sub projects.
In the launch meeting, the persons in charge of the sub projects presented in detail the five parts of the overall project: a project to internationalise the application process within the BSc and MSc programme, a preparatory course for international MSc students, further trainings in intercultural competence for faculty members and WHU staff members, career service offerings customised for international students as well as a programme fostering intercultural encounters in Vallendar. The latter will be drawn up and carried out in cooperation with the institutions in Vallendar mentioned above. Now, after the launch event, concrete preparations for the implementation of the sub projects are underway so that first visible outcomes are to be expected as soon as next fall term.
