13.07.2010 | WHU MBA Team wins again rowing competition in Mannheim
While the German football team was still fighting to win the quarter finals of the world cup the WHU MBA students already celebrated their success. Students of the "WHU MBA Class of 2011" pull ahead once more and win the trophy for the 3rd time in a row at the 5. "German MBA Rowing Race" versus the MBA students of Mannheim Business School. The WHU rowing team increased the rating again this year in an exciting race to defend the title. This year the Mannheim Business School invited the MBA class of 2011 to the traditional race on the Neckar.
A famous model for the "German MBA Rowing Race" is the prestigious duel of the elite universities Cambridge and Oxford, carried out since 1829. About 250,000 spectators border the race watersides every year. Such a response and support can only be a dream for the German business schools – however, the MBA students in their rowing boats mobilized quite an impressive number of fans, and also passers-by got curious and cheered for the rowers.
The international WHU team (one boys team and a girls team) trained since April on the river Moselle in order to be well prepared for the rowing competition. The training sessions usually took place in the early morning hours before lectures. After the races and the award ceremony, both teams watched Germany win and celebrated the day with a barbeque at Mannheim Business School. A very warm thank you to the hosts, the Mannheim Business School and to the trainer Teddy, whose support helped to achieve that victory. Last but not least also a warm thank you to the rowing club Rhenania in Koblenz, who made the training sessions on the river Moselle possible.
The WHU is happy to welcome the Mannheim Business School in Vallendar next year.
