Events like the reactor disaster at Fukushima twelve months ago, or the eruption of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull in 2010, tend to highlight the innate vulnerability of the global economy and in particular, the fragility of global supply chains. These issues are particularly significant for enterprises that operate internationally. So how can we reduce the risks inherent in supply chain management? And while today’s value creation networks exploit to the extent possible local business advantages, the challenges that come with these dispersed structures have grown substantially over the last ten years.
