Seit September 2013 hat Prof. Dr. Aktas den Lehrstuhl für Mergers & Acquisitions an der WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management inne. Außerdem ist er Co-Director des Executive Education Programms für Mergers & Acquisitions an der WHU. Zuvor arbeitete er an der Skema Business School (Frankreich), der EMLYON Business School (Frankreich) und der Louvain School of Management (Université catholique de Louvain). Prof. Dr. Aktas ist bekannt für seine Forschungsartikel über Mergers & Acquisitions, die in führenden internationalen Zeitschriften wie dem Journal of Financial Economics, dem Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, dem Economic Journal, dem Journal of Corporate Finance und dem Journal of Banking & Finance veröffentlicht wurden. Seine Forschungen wurden in den Programmen führender internationaler Konferenzen vorgestellt und in weit verbreiteten internationalen Medien wie der Financial Times, der New York Times und der Süddeutschen Zeitung zitiert. Von 2001-2002 war er Gastwissenschaftler an der Anderson School of Management (UCLA, Los Angeles). Prof. Dr. Aktas ist auch Mitglied des Aufsichtsrats von Pulcra Chemicals.
