Annual Conference for Management Accounting Research

7th ACMAR Doctoral Colloquium at WHU

2018: Doctoral Colloquium sparks lively debate among international students

“It’s been enriching. It’s been informative. And it’s been fun.” Leanne Johnstone’s (Örebro University School of Business) conclusion of the doctoral colloquium in management accounting at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management could not have been any better. Correspondingly, Utz Schäffer, Director of the Institute of Management Accounting and Control (IMC), has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the participants who engaged in lively debates on Wednesday and Thursday morning. The colloquium was held in conjunction with the Annual Conference for Management Accounting Research (ACMAR) at WHU.

Ten doctoral students from six countries presented and discussed their current research with an experienced faculty: Professor Wai Fong Chua (The University of Sydney), Karen Sedatole (Emory University’s Goizueta Business School), and Utz Schäffer (WHU) provided the young researchers with valuable feedback. “It was great to see how we could learn incredibly much from each other. Even if – for instance – the other student’s paper on digitalization had nothing to do with my own paper I could take lessons for my research on corporate social responsibility and control systems,” said Madeleine Feder (Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf).
