Introduction to Research and Academic Writing

In der Veranstaltung sollen den Studenten Kenntnisse vermittelt werden, nach denen wissenschaftliche Studien (z.B. auch Ihre Abschlussarbeit) relevant und rigoros durchgeführt werden. Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung sollen Sie daher ein Verständnis für die Suche nach und Nutzung von bisherigen Forschungsbeiträgen entwickeln, mögliche eigene Beiträge ("contributions") formulieren, ausarbeiten und verstehen sowie verstehen wie sich Entscheidungen über das Forschungsdesign auf ein Forschungsprojekt auswirken.

Kursinhalt

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of scientific research in economics and business as well as the stylistic and formal aspects of academic writing. The main goal of the course is to help students conduct research projects and write research papers. This course is particularly useful for students looking to write an excellent Bachelor Thesis.

After an introduction to the foundations of economics and business research, we will cover all stages of a research project, such as searching for literature, building hypotheses, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. The course will also give you practical tools for giving an excellent research presentation and for writing an excellent research paper. Lastly, we will also cover formal aspects of the Bachelor Thesis and the citing of references following the APA style. These topics are roughly spread across four sessions:

Session 2: Conducting Research
Session 3: Presenting Research (+ Student Presentations)
Session 4: Reporting about Research
