Course Objectives:

Being a great leader requires a skillset to fully leverage the potential of your workforce for the goal of the organization. This course will help students to understand the needed capabilities to find the best in themselves and in turn inspire, engage and mobilize others. Students will work on developing those capabilities that generate high levels of professional performance and life satisfaction. The course contents aim to show the connection between the importance of developing one’s own meaning as a leader and the ability to lead in today’s business environment – especially in young organizations and startups.

Contents:

This course will provide an introduction into: • Fundamental Ideas of Personal Development in Philosophy and Psychology • Theory of Centered Leadership - especially developing the capability of meaning • Elements of Positive Psychology for a basic understanding of goal- and resource-oriented working techniques • Basics of Spiral Dynamics and their effects on organizational development • Types of goal systems in business coaching and their different application areas Students will work individually, in groups and with presentations in class on methods how to combine the potential of those concepts and apply it in their personal and professional life. The first session will introduce theories, methods and tools. The second session will be based on group presentations, their discussion and integration into the students professional and personal development.

Competences/Achievements:

The theories and practices taught in this course are applicable in a wide array of positions in all types of organizations in which students may eventually find themselves. The ideal learning outcomes of this course and the students’ involvement in exercises will be:

apply a resource-oriented view onto decisions about professional development as well as business

open a wider perspective on what makes a great leader and how concepts from other disciplines contribute to a better understanding of behaviour of individual with teams and organizations

enable students to come up with an own personal toolset to stimulate need self-reflection and self-management

- 50% Group project and presentation

- 50% Class work

Students must be willing and open to tackle professional and personal development challenges, apply the concepts to themselves and partly share experiences in a class setting.
