By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

- have a clear understanding of the concept of culture and it’s impact on their personal and business life,

- reflect on their own cultural background and learn how it is perceived by others,

- know about different cultural dimensions and it’s application in real life situations,

- know about different leadership styles according to cultural background

- develop concrete and sustainable behavioral strategies in an international business context.

Apart from one short article which will be sent to participants beforehand, no compulsory pre-reading is required. If participants would like to get a deeper insight into the subject the following books can be recommended: Geert Hofstede: Cultures and Organisations – Software of the Mind,Fons Trompenaars: Riding the Waves of Culture – Understanding Diversity in Global Business,Fons Trompenaars: Managing People Across Cultures,Milton Bennett: Basic Concepts of Intercultural Communication,Richard D. Lewis: When Cultures Collide – 3rd Edition Leading Across Cultures, Sylvia Schroll-Machl: Doing Business with Germany – Their Perception, Our Perception
This workshop consists of different interactive teaching methods such as simulations, group exercises, film sequences, case studies as well as group discussions.
Attendance
There is no particular knowledge required to attend this workshop. However, it would be useful to have some international working experience in order to have some personal examples to refer to.
