Leading Entrepreneurship Experts Meet at WHU

As new Division Chair of the renowned Entrepreneurship (ENT) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM), Professor Dr. Christina Günther, Chairholder of the IHK Chair for Small- and Medium Sized Enterprises at WHU, hosted the division’s Annual Mid-Winter Meeting (MWM) for the first time. On January 27 and 28, 2018, leading global scholars in entrepreneurship and family business research gathered at the Vallendar Campus of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management.

As Chair of the Entrepreneurship Division, Professor Dr. Günther will lead the Board in shaping the Division’s strategies and activities. This includes coordinating all activities with regard to the next Annual Meeting of the AOM, which will take place in Chicago in August 2018. During the MWM in Vallendar, the ENT division made crucial decisions for the planning of the Annual Meeting, which brings together 10,000 participants each year and is the biggest scientific conference in the management discipline.  Another goal of the ENT MWM was the crafting out of a strategy to further develop the field of entrepreneurship in terms of what the pressing questions are that need to be answered, for instance more support for emerging scholars and doctoral students pursuing an academic career in the field of entrepreneurship research.

The AOM is the preeminent professional association for management and organization scholars. Worldwide members are professors and Ph.D. students in business schools at universities, academics in related social science and other fields, and practitioners. Founded in 1936, the global AOM community today is nearly 20,000 strong, spanning more than 120 countries. With 3,585 members and over 20 percent rise in the last five years, ENT is the fastest growing division of the AOM, and now represents one of the largest divisions within the association. Professor Dr. Günther was elected Division Chair in late 2017. In this position, she succeeds distinguished scholars like Shaker A. Zahra, David Audretsch, Sharon Alvarez und Mike Wright.
