Raising the Sails—Just Like in the National League

They’re off to the races, aboard boats from the Germany Sailing League and the Sailing Champions League. From August 24 – 27, the first ever Alumni Business Cup (ABC) & Conference will take place at the Kieler Yacht-Club [Yacht Club of Kiel]. Organized by WHU Sailing, the club for those members of the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management community who love the water, this regatta will also feature a conference centered around entrepreneurship. Included on the roster of speakers this year is Dr. Peter Witt, Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at the University of Wuppertal and one of WHU’s adjunct professors.

That WHU Sailing was able to collaborate on this event with the German Sailing League is quite the feat. Participants will enjoy a unique form of fleet racing atop J70s, the League’s official, standard boat. This is to ensure all teams start on the same playing field.

The 2023 Alumni Business Cup & Conference is open to sailing enthusiasts, particularly those who are members of teams that compete against WHU Sailing on the European circuit, alumni of the MBA and EMBA programs, and any student enrolled at a top European business school who has a passion for the waves. To date, teams from Bucerius Law School, St. Gallen, Kühne Logistics University, LBS, INSEAD, IESE, and IE have already registered. Participation is capped at around 12 – 15 teams with five crew members each. The races will take place over the course of two days (August 25 – 26), allowing participants to travel on the preceding Thursday, where they will enjoy a welcome reception that evening. Even before the event officially gets started, they will have an opportunity to enjoy the scenery and get acquainted to their boat and the water.
