The U-Multirank Ranking is of great interest to students and prospective students who want to study abroad and are overwhelmed by the wide range of schools and programs. The ranking provides them with an instrument that helps them choose the right institution. It enables them to make an informed decision based on the criteria that best meets their specific needs and expectations concerning the social, academic or other aspects of their study experience.
The core competences of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management are represented in the ranking categories “International Orientation”, “Teaching and Learning” as well as “Research”. U-Multirank rates the schools with a grading system from A (best result) to E (worst result). WHU received a total of twelve A-ratings and achieved excellent results in all the aforementioned categories, including in three of the four core aspects of the "Studies and Teaching" area. For example, almost all students in the Bachelor and Master programs at WHU complete their studies within the scheduled program duration. The dropout rate in both programs is less than six percent, well below the international average. Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU, is pleased with the results, "The ranking confirms once again that we are living up to our claim of excellence in the categories that are particularly important to us."
As for "International Orientation", WHU is among the world's leaders in five of six core categories. This internationality is particularly evident in the continuously increasing, comparatively high proportion of international faculty members and in numerous joint publications with foreign academics. The large number of international students and exchange students who choose to spend a semester at WHU, and the fact that all WHU students spend at least one semester or module abroad during their studies, also distinguish the university on an international level.
In the area of research, WHU has been able to improve its citation rate from 1.13 in the previous year to 1.4. The citation rate indicates the average number of times the school’s research publications are cited in other research. Apart from that, an outstanding 15.6 % of all WHU publications belong to the top 10 % most frequently quoted worldwide. With an external research income of 98,97 % and 130 professional publications, the results of the U-Multirank Ranking 2020 once more underscore the efficiency and relevance of WHU’s academic staff.
WHU also ranks among the best performing universities in the "Graduate Companies" category thanks to the numerous successful start-ups by its alumni. This is a result of many years of consistent investment by the university in the promotion of start-ups, which is reflected in numerous innovative course contents, student initiatives and conferences, as well as specialized chairs for entrepreneurship and business start-ups.
