Chair of Digital Marketing

Marie Walter places second in the Goldmedia Award for her master theses in the field of media economics

Goldmedia has awarded the prize for innovative theses in the field of media business for the fourth time

Marie Christine Walter was awarded the title "Elections 2019: Lessons Learned? The Influence of Social Media Use on German Electoral Behaviour" with the 2nd prize and a cash prize of 500€. Her master's thesis, which was written in cooperation with Facebook, looks at political opinion formation in social media. In particular, she asks whether and how political parties in Germany will reorient themselves in 2019 in the course of fake news debates and campaigns such as Rezo's "Destruction of the CDU" in their communication with voters. To this end, she conducted expert interviews with 46 decision-makers from all parties - from CDU to the Left to AFD, from district politics to federal politics - and used a survey with over 490 participants.

The Chair of Digital Marketing congratulates Mrs. Walter and is proud of her great achievement. A big thank you goes to the Goldmedia jury for this honor. Thanks also go to Facebook, especially Kai Herzberger and Torsten Müller-Klockmann for their collaboration on the master thesis as well as Sebastian Hein for his co-supervision and Simon Koepp for brainstorming the initial thesis idea.

As early as 2019, Marie Walter's master's thesis was honored with the In Praxi Outstanding Thesis Award by the In Praxi - WHU Alumni Association at WHU's annual Graduation Ceremony.
