On May 17th, 2023, Devadrita Nair successfully defended her dissertation on "Human-Machine Forecasting for E-Commerce". Ms. Nair shows that expert forecasts complement machine learning methods for seasonal products that are constantly upgraded and updated. In two companion papers, i) a multi-year demand forecast accounting that also accounts for black-swan events, and ii) a short-term demand forecast that includes "notify-me" information, are presented. For more than three years, her work was supported by Canyon Bicycles GmbH located in nearby Koblenz. A big thank you goes to the founder and former CEO Roman Arnold as well as members of the Business Intelligence team and the administration for supporting this enduring and fruitful academic-industry collaboration. Ms. Nair will join Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Digital Supply Chain Transformation Department on June 1st.
