Martin Fassnacht Among the 100 Most Influential Economists in Germany

WHU marketing expert listed in F.A.Z. Economists’ Ranking for the fourth time in a row

Economists of all shades are sought-after experts for media, politics, and science. But which of them is most influential in Germany? In the F.A.Z. Economists’ Ranking 2020, Professor Dr. Martin Fassnacht has now made it into the top 100 again – for the fourth time in a row. His research results and analyses are published in dozens of newspaper and online articles, mentioned in TV reports, and are cited in hundreds of scientific papers every year. "It is our goal at the Chair of Strategy and Marketing to connect science and business and to inspire the business world. The F.A.Z. ranking demonstrates that we have succeeded in achieving this so far," Martin Fassnacht comments on the current evaluation.

The ranking of the top economists is based on their influence on media, politics, science, and social media between August 2019 and July 2020. With regard to the media, Unicepta analyzed on behalf of F.A.Z. how often the respective economists were mentioned in the top German media. For politics, members of parliament and executives from ministries at federal and state level were asked which economists they appreciated most.

Professor Fassnacht and his chair are particularly pleased with the listing as the public focus has shifted on topics concerning the corona crisis. Starting in March, the interest in the opinions of economists and macroeconomists became even stronger than before, as they were asked to evaluate the consequences of the pandemic. Nevertheless, Martin Fassnacht was one of the few business administration professors who succeeded in maintaining his influential position in the ranking and as a respected marketing expert in the public discussion.
