As part of the MSc lecture “Strategic Technology and Innovation Management“, we welcomed Dr.-Ing. Johannes Triebs (Chief Engineer, Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM), Aachen University) who spoke about “Commercializing Research-Based Innovations: The E-Mobility Start-Ups from the RWTH Aachen.”
Following the presentation of Aachen University’s unique environment as innovation hub with over 300 associated companies, Dr. Triebs presented his work at the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM). PEM supports innovators with state-of-the-art machinery and expertise and strives for improving both development time and cost. In this regard, Dr. Triebs highlighted the importance of concepts such as fast prototyping, Return on Engineering, and Design to Cost. Moreover, Dr. Triebs spoke about recent success stories of e-mobility start-ups from the RWTH Aachen including the customer-centric electric transporter StreetScooter (acquired by Deutsche Post DHL Group in 2014) and the purpose-designed, frugal electric vehicle e.GO Life.
We would like to thank Dr. Triebs for the impressive presentation and look forward to a reunion at Aachen University or WHU.
