On May 5th, 2023, Ole Frauen (Volkswagen Group, Wolfsburg, Germany) successfully defended his thesis on "Managing Distributed and Complex Product Development Projects: The Effect of Work Design and Product Architecture on Process Quality". Frauen examines how I) Onsite and Offsite R&D Decisions, ii) Nearshore and Farshore R&D Decisions, and iii) Part Connections/Linkages drive costly engineering change requests. What matters most: organizational or geographic distance or links between outsourced components? A working paper will be available shortly.
