Guest lecture on beyond budgeting at Merck

Ilja Doering, Head of Global Business Planning & Analysis at Merck, was a guest speaker in Utz Schäffer’s Advanced Management Accounting and Control lecture.

On December 7, the students from the master program at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management received valuable insights into the performance management at Merck from Ilja Doering, Head of Global Business Planning & Analysis at Merck. In his lecture, Ilja Doering emphasized the importance of dynamic company steering in an environment dominated by increasing volatility and uncertainty. Merck reacts to these external changes by making steering processes leaner and more dynamic. Part of that transformation is the introduction of rolling forecasts, a fundamental decentralization and autonomy of employees, and a stronger external orientation for target setting. In addition, Ilja Doering demonstrated the importance of company culture and how it supports implementing transformation projects.

Thank you, Ilja Doering, for taking the time for this guest lecture to discuss beyond budgeting at Merck with the students.
