Master Program

Start of the Part-Time Master in Management Program

29 students begin their part-time studies at WHU

Back in September 2021, WHU launched its first Master of Arts degree program, the Part-Time Master in Management. Now in its second year, a new cohort of 29 students recently embarked on their academic journey through the part-time program. On September 8, Professor Jürgen Weigand, Deputy Dean, and Professor Peter Witt, Academic Director of the program, welcomed the incoming students to their first module on WHU Campus Vallendar.

The Part-Time Master in Management Program is designed for candidates who start their professional career right after completing their Bachelor's degree, but at the same time want to continue their academic education. With its flexible program structure, the Part-Time Master in Management can be fully integrated into daily work life. The 17-month program includes eight core modules and an international capstone module. On four days per month, usually Thursday through Sunday, students hail from all across Germany to meet in person, either on Campus Vallendar or on Campus Düsseldorf. This particular structure allows the students to study part-time without having to interrupt their professional career and lets them apply the knowledge and ideas gained during the on-campus sessions directly to their jobs.

The English-taught program includes courses such as General Management & Economics and Advanced Controlling, but also Managing the Human Side of Organizations. In addition, guest lectures and discussions with speakers from a wide range of business sectors offer students the chance to network and exchange ideas with experts and business leaders. A one-week capstone module abroad completes the coursework. Lead by Professor Christian Schlereth, the students visit the innovative and vibrant start-up hub of Tel Aviv in Israel. A diverse mix of lectures and company visits provides ample opportunity for cultural exchange and networking.

During their first module in September, the new students got to know each other not only through the lectures and interactive group work, but also beyond. They were able to bond during networking activities in the evenings such as the welcome dinner in the renowned old town of Koblenz. “In addition to gaining valuable business knowledge through the rigorous coursework, our students uniquely benefit from interpersonal exchange and a close-knit network at WHU," remarks Program Director Heidrun Hoffmann. By the end of the first module, the students were already looking forward to reuniting again during the next module in the golden month of October.
