The Entrepreneurship Center at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management is constantly working to act as an interface for an entrepreneurial ecosystem, including striving for the involvement of regional business players. This is exactly the case with BD Rowa, a manufacturer of automated selection machines and digital solutions based in Kelberg in the Eifel region of Germany. The new partnership represents a win-win-win situation for WHU students, the company, and the ecosystem.
Innovative partners support each other in mutual development and drive new perspectives and solutions to problems. A new strategic partnership has now been sealed by Prof. Dr. Dries Faems, Co-Director of the WHU Entrepreneurship Center, and Antonios Vonofakos, Managing Director of BD Rowa. The partnership evolved out of the respective hopes of the two institutions. The Entrepreneurship Center hoped to involve not only WHU students and alumni in its entrepreneurial ecosystem, but also regional establishments in order to further strengthen the practice-oriented development of ideas and entrepreneurship. BD Rowa, as an innovative manufacturer of automated selection machines, with more than 70 patents and over 900 employees, hoped to connect with an academic institution to gain deeper insights and inspiration for its own business model.
Specifically, the collaboration will see BD Rowa sponsor an open innovation competition in the Digital Transformation course in WHU's full-time MBA program. During this competition, students are to explore new digital business models. To best enable this, BD Rowa will provide internal company information that will allow students to develop creative business models in a real-world environment. During speed-dating sessions, course participants will interact directly with BD Rowa managers. In a final presentation, the MBA students will present their proposed solutions.
