The BeyondGenderAgenda (BGA) aims to put diversity and inclusion on the agenda of the German economy. The initiative has been pursuing this idea since its foundation in January 2020 and has implemented it in various activities and platforms, such as online events, the "Diversity & Inclusion" podcast, and the "Wake-Up Call" video series.
In the podcast, BGA founder Vicky Wagner exchanges with guests from politics, top management, and research. Professor Dr. Nadine Kammerlander, holder of the Chair of Family Business and Academic Director Diversity at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, was also a guest on the podcast. There she spoke on the topic "Lack of Diversity in Germany's large family businesses" (episode 10). Her conclusion: "There is still a lot to do. Family businesses are often - and this applies to diversity and inclusion - more extreme than other companies. According to Kammerlander, the fact that these extremes exist is due to the strong differences within family businesses. On the one hand, there is a small minority of family businesses that are very diverse, and on the other hand, many family businesses uphold their traditional values, which include the male occupation of management positions.
Professor Dr. Nadine Kammerlander heads the Chair of Family Business and the Institute for Family Business and Mittelstand at WHU. Her research focuses on innovation, employees, and governance in family businesses and family offices. Her scientific contributions have been published in international journals (including AMJ, AMR, JMS, JBV, ETP, JPIM, FBR, SBE) and have been awarded renowned research prizes. In addition to her teaching and research activities, she is Academic Director Diversity. In this role, she strategically pursues the goal of establishing diversity and inclusion as integral components of research, teaching, and practice at the business school. On the operational side, Kammerlander supports student clubs such as the "Diversity at WHU" club and the LGBT+ community at WHU, to give them the appropriate voice and more weight.
