Sports Business Conference Focuses on the Future

On October 30, 2022, the second-ever Sports Business Conference, powered by WHU Euromasters, will take place at the Vallendar campus of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. What was previously only an online event will step into the physical arena for the first time, with attendees and guest speakers alike engaging in face-to-face dialogs about all things sports and business. But what does sports have to do with business in the first place? Participants will find out at the event, which will feature a well-rounded group of speakers, from Fernando Carro, CEO of Bayern 04 Leverkusen, to Gernot Tripcke, head of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since 2000.

This event is designed for students by students and is open to participants from WHU and other universities. Whether working toward a bachelor, master, or MBA, anyone interested in sports business and marketing is encouraged to participate and learn more about the industry. August Deutz, student representative for the conference says, “This isn’t about learning how to manage a football team. Rather, we’re thinking about the bigger picture.” And indeed, the topics on the docket this year reflect that zoomed-out perspective and ask the crowd questions such as “What will major sporting events look like in the future?” and “How can the industry promote new and innovative sports?

The one-day gathering will take place shortly before the opening of the flagship WHU Euromasters event, a series of competitive games that brings together business schools from all over Germany and beyond. The Sports Business Conference, under the academic direction of Professor Sascha L. Schmidt, differentiates itself in that it focuses on theory and on the corporate aspects of the world of sports. It understands that the passion seen on the basketball court or football field can only reach the masses if the support system behind it is based on solid ethical and economic principles and a sense of vision.

Tickets are now on sale and open to all. Those interested can sign up through the official Sports Business Conference portal.
