U-Multirank Ranking 2021

U-Multirank analyzes 1,948 universities from 97 different countries and prides itself on its particularly wide range of participating higher education institutions, including business schools like WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. The 2021 results show WHU demonstrating strengths across various indicators, earning 13 top ratings overall, including remarkable improvements in categories such as “post-doc positions” where it jumped from “below average” in 2020 to “very good” in 2021. Moreover, WHU ranked against the top performing universities around the world and placed Global Top 25 in the category of “student mobility”. In several categories which are near and dear to WHU such as international elements, teaching and learning, and graduate companies (i.e., startups), WHU scored particularly well. With top scores in graduation rates for Bachelor and Master programs, programs provided in foreign languages, student mobility, staff internationality, and in categories having to do with national and international research publications, WHU has shown clear improvement over the course of the last year. With regards to knowledge transfer, WHU ranked in the highest category for graduate startups.

As the concept of the ranking is such that a school works to excel especially in the specific categories which are particularly relevant to itself and its goals, there is no composite, aggregate ranking. However, highly qualified schools included in the Top 25 are given the opportunity to evaluate progress in categories significant to their institution over time. Results are based on school surveys as well as bibliometric and patent data, and schools are grouped into tiers with quality indicators descending from A (very good) to E (weak). Additionally, the U-Multirank methodology and result distribution allow for all parties – students, researchers, employees and businesses, governments and ministries, and for the media – to compare higher education institutions in a more personalized and meaningful way. “Despite the lack of an official ranking,” says Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU, “the results clearly indicate that WHU is performing exceptionally in its field.”
