FT Ranking Brings Outstanding Results for WHU

In the Financial Times (FT) European Business Schools Ranking for 2022, WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management has reached #13. Within Germany, the school has reclaimed its position from last year and sits at #2. “These excellent results demonstrate that, among the best business schools in Europe, our focus on thought leadership has been worth the effort. They show that we have lived up to—and continue to live up to—our claim of excellence regarding our management training and research,” says Professor Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU. In the 2019 edition of the ranking, the school stood at #23, moving to #20 by 2021—and has now leapt ahead a further seven positions this year.

This excellent overall score is the result of WHU’s placements in various other rankings published this year by the Financial Times, where the school continuously sits among the best programs in Europe: The Master in Management Program jumped forward five positions (over 2021) and now ranks at #13. The MBA Program is holding its own at #19, and WHU has moved up four positions to #8 in Europe for the Kellogg-WHU EMBA Program. With its Open Executive Education Programs, WHU was able to move up nine spots and reach #11; and the Customized Executive Education Programs, which are tailormade according to the needs of inquiring companies, were eligible for the ranking for the first time, where they successfully reached #34.

The degree of diversity seen in the faculty is another advantage for WHU, particularly when comparing schools internationally. “We were able to significantly increase the proportion of female professors, this being a part of our development strategy. We were also able to maintain our level of internationality, with 32% of the faculty coming from outside the country,” Dean Rudolf noted. “These current results are of significant importance to us, as many potential students—both from in- and outside Germany—base their decisions on them.”

Overall, 95 European business schools participated in this year’s ranking, including the University of St. Gallen (#5), ESMT Berlin (#8), Mannheim Business School (#21), the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (#26), and the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management (#50).
