Financing your studies

Our tuition fees are €8500 per semester.
BAföG recipients are exempt from tuition fees
60% of our students choose a WHU scholarship – or one of our other financing options.
And do not worry. Your application for financing will not affect your application to WHU.

Our scholarships are awarded on a continual basis, but only after you have received an offer of a place. Applying early for one of our Bachelor's programs can increase your chances of receiving a scholarship. Proof of English proficiency is a prerequisite for your scholarship application.

Financing options:

For 15% of students, WHU provides full scholarships. This means that you do not have to pay tuition fees for the regular study program (180 cr, no additional modules).

These scholarships are allocated based on the German Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz - BAföG).

To apply for the tuition waiver, you have to be eligible for BAföG (a pre-requisite is usually the German citizenship, but there are exceptions for foreigners). You have to prove your household income and assets when submitting the BAföG application. A BAföG certificate containing the relevant information must then be submitted to WHU.

The BAföG application must be submitted to the corresponding BAföG authority (Amt für Ausbildungsförderung an der Universität Koblenz) between August 4th and September 30th. Usually, the final BAföG assessment will be available by November. If you are not eligible for the scholarship, WHU will claim the tuition fees accordingly. Please inform yourself in time if you are eligible for BAföG, e.g., via www.bafoeg-rechner.de. If the number of scholarship applications exceeds the number of scholarships available, they will be allocated according to financial needs and the ranking in the selection process. Any students who will not be able to receive a full scholarship, will then be eligible for reduced tuition fees.

After receiving a study offer you will be able to apply for a tuition fee waiver or reduced tuition fees at WHU by July 15th. Further information can be found in this flyer (only available in German). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

If you are a student who is generally eligible for BAföG (a pre-requisite is usually the German citizenship, but there are exceptions for foreigners) with a considerable income and assets of up to €7,670 above the BaföG limit per year, you will be eligible for reduced tuition fees. The overall sum being available for reduced tuition fees is limited. The amount of reduction for each student depends on the number of eligible students and can therefore be communicated only after the start of the program. We expect a reduction between 50% and 75%. The application procedure is the same as for the tuition fee waiver.

Since its foundation in 2005 at WHU, Brain Capital offers a fair and flexible financing model for tuition fees and living expenses. Students from the EU, UK, USA or Canada who have received an admission offer to a degree program at WHU, may apply for the WHU education fund. The WHU education fund is an income share agreement and allows students to focus on their studies without worrying about tuition fees or indebtedness after graduation. The repayment only starts after graduation and completely depends on the gross income. Through the income dependent repayments, alumni support future generations of students.

Numerous student loans and education funds supplement traditional forms of financing such as scholarships, BAföG, or parental support. The CHE has reported 53 offers, including the above-mentioned offer from Brain Capital GmbH
