The PhD program at the Institute of Management Accounting and Control (IMC) of WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management ranks No. 1 in Europe and No. 9 in the world in the area of management accounting. For the area corresponding to the research methods used at the institute (survey, field studies …), the IMC shares second place with Michigan State University behind the University of Southern California.
“This is a great result and we are delighted that we could further improve our excellent ranking position from last year", said Utz Schäffer, director of the IMC. "It is gratifying to see that our doctoral program not only has practical relevance but is also making contributions at the cutting-edge of international research."
The annual ranking, produced by Scott L. Summers and David A. Wood of Brigham Young University, relates to the number of peer-reviewed articles published in 12 of the world's most prestigious accounting journals in a 6-year post-graduation window. The quality of each PhD program is measured in terms of how often its graduates published in one of the selected journals during this period.
