On Friday, September 28, 215 graduates of the Bachelor of Science, 129 Master of Science graduates and 7 doctoral candidates at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management celebrated the completion of their studies. The graduation ceremony was held in the Stadthalle in Vallendar for the first time. There, this year's graduates received their well-deserved graduation certificates and celebrated the joyful occasion in the presence of families and friends.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU, spoke about the future of Europe and addressed graduates with these words: “Liberties are not created through boundaries.” He encouraged the graduates to go out into Europe and into the world. Prior to the awarding of certificates, Dr. Carsten Jungmann, Program Director Business Law at Bucerius Law School also congratulated the attendees. His remarks were followed by inspiring speeches by Dr. Toni Calabretti, President of the WHU Foundation and Managing Director of the Beisheim Group, and by Dr. Rudolf Staudigl, President and CEO of Wacker Chemie AG.
The Alumni Association awarded its “In Praxi Outstanding Thesis Award” to Bachelor graduates Nils Aschmann and Leo Polwein for their thesis entitled “Integration of Refugees as Employees: Opportunity or Challenge for German Family Businesses?” and to Sebastian Schwärzler, who convinced the members of the jury with his master’s thesis entitled “Analysis of Competence Assessment Practices in the Economic Integration of Refugees in Northern Rhineland-Palatinate.” For all the three award winners, their personal involvement in refugee assistance played a crucial role in selecting the topic of their theses.
Rounding out the day's festivities were personal remarks by the respective class speakers as well as musical performances by graduates and students. The graduation ceremonies were followed by a ball held for graduates in the Rhein-Mosel-Halle in Koblenz.
