In its recently published ranking of economists for 2018, the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung identifies the economists with the greatest influence on public life in German-speaking countries. Again this year, the ranking includes Professor Dr. Martin Fassnacht of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. He was ranked in 64th place overall.
“For the most part, the ranking of economists is a list of macroeconomists. The fact that a business economist from WHU has once again been selected as one of the most influential economists comes as a source of praise and an incentive for our Business School at the same time,” said Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU.
The FAZ Ranking of Economists has been published each year since 2013 and honors the performance of researchers in economics from Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the perspective of research, media and advice to policy-makers. To be included in the FAZ ranking at all, economists must demonstrate significant resonance in at least two of the fields considered. Researchers must have left a lasting impression on the research community as well as on the general public.
Professor Dr. Martin Fassnacht heads the Chair of Marketing and Commerce at WHU in Düsseldorf. During the period under review, from August 2017 through July 2018, he was not only very active in research but also constantly made his expertise available to the media on current topics in marketing and commerce. In the “Media” category, the ranking considers mentions in FAZ, Die Welt, Süddeutsche, Frankfurter Rundschau, taz, Bild-Zeitung, ARD Tagesschau and Tagesthemen, ZDF Heute and Heute Journal, Bericht aus Berlin, Berlin direkt, Fakt, Frontal 21, Kontraste, Monitor, Panorama, Plusminus, Report (BR), Report (SWR), WISO, Die Zeit, Focus, Spiegel, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Welt am Sonntag, Handelsblatt, Wirtschaftswoche, Capital, Manager Magazin and in the 7 o’clock news broadcast by Deutschlandfunk.
