Online Courses Replace Classroom Teaching

Vallendar/Düsseldorf, March 13, 2020: As early as March 9, classes at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management were converted to digital formats, initially for five days, due to the current coronavirus situation. Today, the executive committee decided that proactively no classroom teaching in the Bachelor, Master, and MBA programs will take place on the Vallendar and Düsseldorf campuses until the end of the term on April 30, 2020. Instead, all courses will continue to be offered digitally.

Teaching at WHU was already converted to digital teaching content on March 8. This measure will now be continued. "The quick and professional switch to online formats was already largely successful this week. It is really impressive and amazing how much willingness and understanding there was in the WHU community," reports Professor Dr. Markus Rudolf, Dean of WHU.

It is purely a precautionary measure and a contribution to slowing down the spread of the virus. The students should not suffer any disadvantage from the current situation. Professors have the option of recording their lectures from home and making them available to students online. They can give an interactive live lecture via video conference or make a webcast in which students can interact via a chat function.

The Vallendar and Düsseldorf campuses will remain open for staff and faculty to support the implementation of digital teaching. The decision has been agreed with the Mayen-Koblenz health authority, which is very supportive of the business school in its decision.

Update from March 23, 2020:

The application procedure for prospective students has also been completely digitalized. Admission interviews take place via Skype, the admission process remains largely unchanged. Due to the current situation, applications for the Full Time as well as Part Time MBA will be accepted beyond the official application deadline of March 31. Regular virtual coffee chats offer interested  candidates the chance to meet members of the recruitment team. Furthermore, WHU offers a selection of virtual lectures and class visits.
