Our goal is to do good work in the areas of research, teaching, and business impact. In doing so, we try to support in particular WHU’s strategy to position itself as a leading European business school. Sometimes, we succeed in doing so.
WHU is among the top 10 institutions worldwide in the SCM discipline when it comes to empirical research. Our consistently strong research productivity helps retaining this position. The many awards won by our PhD students underscore this fact.
JSCM established itself as one of the two leading scientific journals from the field of SCM worldwide. This is visible through the annual impact factors of the Thomson-Reuters’ Social Sciences Citation Index and through the fact that JSCM is on the A-lists of journals of many of the leading schools.
We invest heavily in teaching and in producing useful teaching material for our colleagues. Cases developed under our guidance belong to the most sought after case studies in the 40 year history of The Case Centre; the cases and accompanying teaching notes carry WHU’s brand into classrooms around the globe.
Based on rich experience outside the field of academia, we engage in many fruitful conversations with practitioners. One platform for doing that in Germany is the Schmalenbach Gesellschaft.
ExecEd is also something we enjoy doing: Between 2008 and 2013, Lutz Kaufmann was the faculty director on WHU’s side for the customized program for the German company MAN. This program was delivered jointly with the Said Business School at Oxford University. The faculty directors and the client received the EFMD Excellence in Practice Award in 2010 . This made WHU the first business school from German speaking Europe to win this prestigious award. We launched one of WHU’s successful open programs, the Negotiations program.
