Research Assistant / Doctoral Candidate in the Field of Strategic Negotiations

What you will work on

Your dissertation will focus on core topics in the areas of strategic negotiations and behavioral management. The questions you will work on will be embedded in cross-organizational interactions – typically in the supply chain. Your research findings will provide highly relevant insights for general management and thus combine theoretical advancement with immediate practical impact.

You will take project responsibility for your research and develop your interests in frequent dialogue with us. We follow a quasi-cumulative dissertation model. This means that you will develop several papers, some of which are to be published in internationally renowned academic journals. This approach allows you to build a valuable publication record during your doctoral studies already. We have a history of successful publications from our doctoral students, and the Supply Chain Group at WHU is amongst the 10 research-strongest faculties in the field worldwide (

What we offer

You will be part of a highly motivated team. We work in a professional, open-minded, and supportive environment. Close collaboration and short feedback cycles are our principles. The focus of your work will be your dissertation research, which will give you the opportunity to cooperate with renowned corporate partners (ranging from DAX companies to exciting startup companies) and leading researchers at partner institutions in the U.S. and Asia. This will help you build a strong network in the corporate world and in academia. You will also engage in our teaching activities, with the topics typically closely related to your research.

You will be employed with a 67% or 50% position. Regular periods of working from home can be mutually agreed. Small class sizes and highly interactive teaching formats at WHU imply limited course administration workloads for doctoral students.

The average duration of completing a doctorate with us is about 3 years. Our alumni have continued to pursue truly impressive careers in industry, consulting, and academia.

What we are looking for

We are looking for enthusiastic team players, who share our passion for both academic insight and real-life managerial impact. You should hold a very good Master’s degree in Business, Psychology, Engineering or related fields (you can already apply before graduation).
