Face masks have become an essential part of our daily life in the effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But will masks also belong to our future? In this week’s cover story, DER SPIEGEL addresses the questions of how wearing a face mask affects our lives and whether we will ever be able to get rid of them. Considering their effects for retailers, Prof. Dr. Martin Fassnacht says: “For the fashion industry, the masks are a stroke of luck. They are becoming a fashion accessory”. He also pointed out: “Masks could possibly even replace the tie as the industry's important source of revenue”.
