WHU Sustainability Club –
We want to clarify the true definition of sustainability in a corporate environment

About us

"Sustainability" is everywhere. Programs, policies, and extensive marketing campaigns satisfy the desire of society to be part of a movement that presumably wants to rescue the planet. More and more corporate firms have started introducing programs filled with sustainable buzzwords.

But are we really on the right track here, or are we just trying to push the inevitable problem of climate change further into the future? How can an airplane company introduce a green flying tariff and label itself sustainable? And how shall ordering everything via Amazon maintain the availability of desirable materials on earth in the long run? As future business leaders, shouldn't we question the word’s more profound meaning and the strategy it entails? Or is the word sustainability just becoming a hollow shell?

The WHU sustainability club wants to clarify the true definition of sustainability in a corporate environment. We want to look at the success story of responsible companies that set good examples for their entire industries. But we also want to tackle companies that source their success through business models that are everything but sustainable and only use the trendy buzzword for their marketing campaigns. We want to address the challenges a business may face while transitioning to a sustainable business model and learn how to overcome them. But we mainly want to gain fundamental knowledge of sustainability and remind ourselves that it lies in our hands to make a change.
