International Research Award

Dr. Jan-Rasmus Künnen, recent doctoral graduate at the Mercator Endowed Chair of Demand Management & Sustainable Transport of Professor Arne Strauss, has won the Bronze Anna Valicek Medal of the Airline Group of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (AGIFORS)!

The Anna Valicek Award recognizes original and innovative research in the application of operations research to airline and/or airline related business problems. The medal - coming with a $1000 award on top of a sponsored trip to the Annual AGIFORS Symposium at Montreal - was won with the paper The value of flexible flight-to-route assignments in pre-tactical air traffic management, authored by Jan-Rasmus Künnen and Arne Strauss, and recently published in the renowned journal Transportation Research Part B: Methodological.

The award is highly popular with doctoral graduates of the top universities world-wide, as the list of previous winners shows, and hence an impressive success for Dr. Künnen.
