The doctoral student from the Chair of Production Management explores the topic “A World Without O.R.”
Ronak Tiwari, a second-year doctoral student at the Chair of Production Management, has published an article in the latest issue of OR/MS Today. The magazine is the membership publication of INFORMS (The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) and reaches a global audience of professionals in the fields of operations research and management science.
In his article titled "A World Without O.R.", Tiwari explores the question of what role operations research (O.R.) has played in driving societal and economic development—and what a world might look like had the discipline never existed. Adopting a counterfactual perspective, the article examines how key advancements in business and policy could have unfolded differently in the absence of O.R.
With this publication in OR/MS Today, Ronak Tiwari contributes to the ongoing academic conversation around the relevance and influence of operations research in both theory and practice. The article is aimed at researchers and practitioners alike, offering a thought-provoking “students perspective” on the discipline’s broader societal role.
