Start-ups Investment Report

Financing rounds, exits, take-overs, and stock market activity from WHU start-ups for Q3 2022

The entrepreneurship ecosystem at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management continued to make progress this quarter—even with the international playing field currently in crisis mode. Numerous start-ups funded by WHU alumni succeeded in amassing millions in capital during the most recent funding rounds. Although they may need a little time to reach unicorn status, WHU alumni are already well represented in that bracket. This is all according to the second edition DACH Unicorn Founder Roadmap, published and updated by venture capital firm Antler for 2022. The report reveals that WHU has in fact produced the highest number of unicorn founders relative to the size of its student body among all other schools in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). The following is a list of all that has developed for WHU start-ups during the third quarter of 2022:

 

July 2022<o:p></o:p>

- Justus Schmueser secured €29M during a series A funding round for Kadmos, an online payment platform he helped found. Kadmos allows for easy online salary payments across international borders. 

- Peter Goeke and Miriam Mertens obtained a seven-figure sum for their company DeepSkill GmbH after a funding round.

- Dr. Larissa Leitner and Dr. Annika von Mutius, founders of Empion, secured €2.4M during a pre-seed funding round.

i2x, a start-up focused on AI, received €11M in additional financial resources. Michael Brehm is one of the co-founders and an alumnus of WHU.

- Co-founders Frederick Jost and Philipp Nass successfully completed a seed funding round for their company Holy Energy GmbH.

 

August 2022<o:p></o:p>

MYNE Homes, co-founded by WHU graduate Fabian Loehmer, secured €23.5M during a seed funding round.

- Justus Menzel and his start-up Erste Hausverwaltung collected a seven-figure sum.

- US$2.4M were made available to EQL Finance during the earliest seed funding round. WHU alumnus Eddie de Guia is a co-founder.

NG.Cash, co-founded by Luis Felipe Carvalho, walked away from a seed funding round with a secured US$10M.

- Florian Richter, who was involved in establishing Muddy Machines, pulled in £1.5M (GBP) during a seed funding round.

- Livestream shopping company LiSA secured €2.7M during a seed financing round. Sophie Frères (née Spethmann) is a co-founder.

marta, a platform that helps find appropriate senior care, earned €6.6M in a seed funding round. Philipp Bur and Jan Markus Hoffmann are co-founders and graduates of WHU.

- The fintech start-up fulfin, co-founded by Nathan Evans, secured €4.3M during a seed funding round.

 

September 2022<o:p></o:p>

35up, co-founded by WHU alumnus Fabian Louis, raised $5M in a series A funding.

- €5M were raised by MVP Match in a seed funding round. Co-founder is WHU graduate Philipp Petrescu.

- WHU alumni Daniel Deutsch and Miloš Djurdjević secured €3.3M in seed funding for their start-up heyData.

- Sebastian Jost and his start-up hakuna collected €4M in a seed funding round.

Lykon, which provides digital solutions for a healthy and individual diet, has raised €10M in a series A funding round. It was co-founded by Maximilian Peter Pahn.
