Talk on combining human and algorithmic forecasting for order fulfillment planning
At the 35th Annual Conference of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) in Atlanta, Thomas Kretschmar, doctoral student at the Chair of Production Management under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Arnd Huchzermeier, presented joint research on “Human-machine forecasting for semi-automated order fulfillment planning” on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
In his talk, he introduced a novel approach that integrates the strengths of human intuition and algorithmic forecasting. Human forecasters often outperform algorithms when they have access to additional information, such as private communications or specific domain knowledge. The proposed method aims to systematically combine both perspectives to enhance planning quality in semi-automated order fulfillment.
