Top Scores in the 2023/2024 CHE University Ranking

WHU students give their school another glowing report card, with high marks in several categories

WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management has once again scored high marks in several different categories, as reported in the German 2023/2024 CHE University Ranking, published by the Centre for Higher Education. The school, with campuses in Vallendar and Düsseldorf, underwent an evaluation based on both its own data and feedback from students enrolled in one of the school’s business administration programs. Those students gave WHU top marks—4.9 out of a possible 5 stars—in each of the following: “organization of studies,” “IT infrastructure,” “practice-focused instruction,” “facilities and rooms,” and “relevance to the field and practice of work.” The school also found itself ranked with other top-tier universities in terms of the number of doctorates and number of publications per professor, placing WHU well over the national average in this regard.

“I’m absolutely thrilled, over both these ranking results and the fact that we have been able to defend the school’s position at the top,” noted Professor Christian Andres, Dean of WHU. “How our students feel is something that we take to heart. That their opinions of the school are so positive is proof that WHU is synonymous with excellence in research and in teaching.”

Overall, WHU offers its students an outstanding academic experience, as evidenced by the school’s impressive score of 4.8 out of 5 stars in a multitude of categories. That result is indeed quite a feat, given that this edition of the CHE University Ranking surveys the period of time defined by the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, where they could give open-ended feedback, students noted their high level of satisfaction with the “seamless organization [...] despite the pandemic,” their “enthusiastic professors,” and the small course sizes.

About the CHE University Ranking

For 25 years, the CHE University Ranking has helped potential students find the right study program in Germany. The ranking, covering some 40 different subjects, has served as a comprehensive and transparent source of information for all those seeking to continue their education. With over 300 universities and technical schools examined and over 120,000 students surveyed to date, the CHE University Ranking is the most detailed in the German-speaking world. In addition to information on study programs, instruction, and research, it places special emphasis on students’ own evaluations of the study conditions they have experienced at their institution.

In contrast to many other university rankings from German- or English-language sources, the CHE University Ranking does not provide a traditional list. Rather, it places participants into ranking groups, making a clear distinction between the higher, middle, and lower tiers. This edition also marks the first time that the various categories have been measured using a one- to five-star rating scale.
