Sixteen WHU Students Win the German Scholarship

With 150 students already aided by the initiative, WHU continues to seek new potential sponsors for the future

The Deutschlandstipendium (German Scholarship), an initiative started by the federal government, has helped 150 students join the community at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management since its inception in 2011. Thanks to a robust network of donors—which includes sovereign companies, associations, foundations, and private sponsors—this year alone, a further 16 students have received the support they need to continue their studies and professional development.

For this scholarship, it’s not all about having an impeccable academic performance. The deciding committee considers a wide array of qualities, including special achievements, honors and awards, previous professional experience, and extracurricular activities. They also take any unique personal circumstances into account, from one potential candidate facing serious health complications to another taking care of a loved one. And interestingly, this scholarship is not only open to German nationals. In fact, of the 16 students sponsored in 2022, seven hail from outside the country.

The Deutschlandstipendium provides students with a monthly stipend of €300. With each scholarship running the course of one academic year, each sponsor’s contribution totals €1,800—an amount that the federal government matches. Some entities that have already become sponsors include WHU’s own student-run Confluentes consulting group, Emma – The Sleep Company, and Cowen Germany AG. Those interested in sponsoring a student and helping them realize their ambitious goals should contact Vicky Hansen at the WHU Foundation.
